Navmii GPS World (Navfree)

Navmii GPS World (Navfree) Review. Great for Offline Navigation

Being one of the leading apps in its category, Navmii has an overall 4.0 rating on Google Play which is a huge vote of confidence in its capabilities.

Interface

The design of the app is surprisingly simple, with the main menu based on tiled icons which are well contrasted against the dark background. The OSM map display is distinct with its sharply contrasted overlays. There is also a Google Search icon which you can use for local searches. The UI is quite intuitive, and you’ll find it easy to navigate around the app. I’ll give the design and UI a 10/10 rating.

Key Features

Navmii uses OSM which is a storable version of satellite maps, giving you offline navigation capabilities, although GPS location is still required.

It provides general satellite data which is regularly updated, but you can also purchase individual country maps which have already been defined. Through Navmii, you can access tools such as Traffic Monitoring, Country Maps, Record Journey, Speed Cam Information and the Avoid Toll Road utility. If you are browsing a map with its locations defined on Navmii, it is also possible to create searches using phone contacts, provided these contacts themselves are in the Navmii cloud. You can also create searches using postcodes, city names, streets, and points of interests (POIs).

Since Navmii bases its maps on community reports, it may not be entirely accurate. You also have a useful feedback hub where you can let the developers know more about your experience.

You can get the app on both the App Store and Google Play as free installs, but in-app purchases including ad removal, safety cams, and country maps will cost you from $2 to $4.99. You’ll need at least Android 5.0, although the actual compatibility may vary with the device. For your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, iOS 8.0 is a minimum.

The search feature used to crash, but the latest version fixed that. I give the app`s features a 9/10 especially due to the offline capability.

Usability

I’m glad the developers fixed the bug on the search feature, but more issues remain. You can look up by remote location but not by destination name. Some users have also complained that the voice input function is only programmed for American English access, thus it is useless in some countries. The app still suffers other bugs which haven’t been fixed yet. I’ll give the ease of use an 8/10.

Bottom Line

The Navmii app is really useful if you are looking for an inexpensive satnav or if you need offline functionality. Even the in-app purchases are quite affordable. The Voice Input addition needs a little reworking, but generally, I’d give the app a thumbs up.
