Interface

The design is simply brilliant. I know that’s a very high bar I’ve set there, but the UI looks terrific. The maps are well contrasted with lots of depth and color, and you can easily make out the icons even on HUD display. The speedometer looks just about perfect. The colors are varied for the different items such as traffic light cams, mobile radar traps and other features on the app. The menu icons are easy to access and navigate. I think the app UI deserves a 10/10.

Key Features

This app provides a lot of useful features, the main one of which includes a comprehensive database of over 50,000-speed cams, checks, and red light cameras. You can check the speed limit of the road you are traveling on, track your driving stats and check trip logs.

Since this app uses GPS capability, it allows drivers to constantly update the speed-cam database by reporting accidents, speed cam locations, police, traffic, school zones, and closures. The Trip Log is an integral part of the app as it enables you to have an idea of your mileage and driving behavior.

The app gives you alerts on mobile radar traps and approaching fixed cams. The app is free to install, while the premium version of the app which will cost you $4.99 or $9.99 alternatively for the speedometer premium bundle. There are also monthly and yearly subscription renewals for $1.99 and $19.99 respectively. The features are comprehensive, especially on the premium version. I give them a 9/10.

You can get for your device running Android 4.1 or higher. Alternatively, the iOS app requires iOS 9.0 or later and is compatible with iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone.

Usability

The latest version of the app is much more stable than the previous one. Any time I tried to change orientation from portrait to landscape, the app would forcefully shut down. This might be a bug, or it may be that the app just doesn’t support landscape mode. I also passed by several locations with speed cams, and they weren’t recorded in the database. I’ll give the app a 6/10 for this section.

Bottom Line

Sygic has a beautiful UI, but it isn’t the most comprehensive app in term of features. For example, they should incorporate a traffic speed feature. The use of this app may be hampered by the fact that the Sygic online community doesn’t have the numbers, and drivers either ignore or completely forget about reporting. The Log feature is useful especially if you drive long miles. I’d still recommend the app.
