Transit: Real-Time Transit App
Transit Review. Best Time Saver for Public Transits
Transit is one of the best and leading apps to use as a travel companion, offering great tools when you need to get around in an unfamiliar town or city, or to explore route or public transport possibilities. The app provides route information for more than 120 cities within and outside of the US.
The UI is a combination of Google Maps and an array of colorful icons for the locations which you need to navigate to. The bold interface is quite easy to understand so that you can find and select the various options easily. Colorful signal bars also show you the schedules for different transit modes in real time. As for me, the interface is pretty handy and deserves a 9/10.
Transit provides powerful features which include:
Possibility to know when your bus or subway train is arriving in real-time.
Planning your trips.
Compare A-B trip options with real-time data and find the most effective route.
“GO” helps you with step-by-step navigation if you are moving through a new city or town and are unfamiliar with the directions.
Check schedules and route itineraries whether online or offline.
Find nearby car-share vehicles and book one or request Ubers.
Enable push notifications to alert you to any route changes or service disruptions.
The latest version added feature is a reminder before your train or bus arrives. It also allows you to enable stop notifications when you are approaching your destination.
Transit supports all public transport models from ferries, metros, buses, subways, Uber, bike share, streetcars, trains and several other different options.
The Android version required varies with the specific device. For your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, you’ll need at least iOS 9.0. The app from both Google Play and the App Store is free, and there are no in-app purchases.
Due to the comprehensive features, I’ll give the app a 9/10.
The app accurately predicts most of my bus and subway transit times, ETAs, and delays, which I feel is the most important capability of the app. Occasionally, I wasn’t notified about a route change or a delay. Other times, the real-time prediction was entirely off the mark. The app doesn’t suffer too many bugs. The user experience was generally positive for me, and I’ll give it a 9/10.
I’d recommend this app, though more should be done to improve offline map capabilities. Though the developers rely on data from the transit systems themselves, the app is generally reliable. The real-time functionality which might be the most important feature doesn’t work that accurately, but again, this might not be a problem with the app itself. This is definitely one of the best route navigation apps I’ve used so far.
