Everything We Know About MacBook 16” (2021)

  • Greg Burn

The updated MacBook 16” (2021) was expected to come earlier this year, but so far, it has not been officially announced. It may never be until it hits the shelves, though: sometimes Apple makes premieres without extra hype. Still, there are enough leaks and logical suggestions to see what we anticipate.

While the very existence of the 16-inch MacBook is the result of redesigning the classical 15” model, the appearance will hardly change. The internals, though, will – and they should. The new MacBook is rumored to have a new CPU with two energy-efficient cores and eight high-performance ones. There might be 16-core and 32-core GPU versions. The RAM will reach the max of 32 GB (though previously we spoke of 64 GB models).

As for design, it can change a bit and become more flat-edged, not as rounded as earlier versions. It makes sense to expect bright colors, like those Apple introduced for the new iMacs. The most controversial thing is TouchBar Apple may ditch: while many of us call it useless and too expensive, many of us are sure to miss it when it’s gone. So chances are TouchBar-less MacBooks will come as an option.

The greatest thing to expect, though, is the return of MagSafe. After making it to the new iPhones, MagSafe technology may make it back to MacBooks. But will it be the original one or something iPhone-inspired? We’re not even sure it will be there. If it is, the most logical solution is to leave the USB-C charging here while adding an extra MagSafe charging area, maybe with reverse charge possibility.

Given all that, the most probable release date for the new MacBook 16” is Q3 2021. While later Apple will focus on manufacturing and delivering the next iPhones, the time before its release is best used for laptops. As for the price, it will significantly deviate from the current one, which starts at $2,399. The rest will depend on the hardware components, as usual.
