Facebook & Instagram Beta Apps For VR

  • Greg Burn

Zuckerberg has already said that people will use AR and VR every day soon, so the Meta company decided to implement its platforms and has already started testing beta versions. Facebook and Instagram are now a part of Meta’s iconic Quest VR headset. Previously, VR was mostly used in the game industry. Despite this, Meta expands the boundaries of using virtual reality.

Social Media Now in VR

The widely known Oculus, which specializes in VR glasses, belongs to Facebook. Oculus is very famous and active with similar companies in its category. Facebook has invested huge sums of money in promoting virtual reality to make it as popular as we know it now. The latest novelty was the Oculus Quest 2 in 2020, which had a quite low price and sold out in large numbers.

When you think about VR, you probably imagine a three-dimensional experience. Both social media apps are in 2D, which means that they will appear as interactive screens. Beta versions of these applications will seek to grow in something more, such as Meta’s Horizon Worlds, which reflect Metaverse’s future vision.

What Does It Look Like?

The main advantage for VR users is the size of virtual applications screens. The multitasking feature allows you to open up to three screens simultaneously. Moreover, there is a virtual keyboard with which users can type using both hands. This is surprisingly not uncomfortable and even fairly quick to perform especially compared to console control.

The Quest VR headset comes with a web browser through which you can access Facebook and Instagram. The only disadvantage of using Instagram and Facebook apps is that there is no control for the size of the window. But all of this is just the beginning of something bigger.
