Instagram Launches Ads on Shop Tab Globally

  • Samanta Blumberg

In 2020, Facebook-owned photo and video-sharing social networking platform Instagram revealed Shop as part of the company’s plan to boost its e-commerce functionality, earn more profit, and attract new customers. Instagram started testing ads in its Shop tab earlier in August. Looks like the testing went well, for the feature will launch globally in the areas that currently support Shop on August 24th. Keep reading for more details on the topic.

The Instagram Shop feature is represented by a button that allows you to look through a variety of items for sale. This refers to clothes or beauty products, and, in some instances, grants you the possibility to make purchases directly through the application. With shops, Instagram aims to make shopping a joyful (vs. chore-ful) experience for their users.

Ads will show up as tiles on the IG Shop tab homepage. Once you click on an ad, you’ll find yourself on a product details page where you can learn more about the product you’re viewing and see more pictures, along with other items from the brand. Also, you’ll get to save items to a wishlist without leaving Instagram.

In addition to this, the dev team behind Instagram is reportedly in the process of designing a feature that allows users to like a Story. Currently, users can only react to Stories via their direct messages. Now that there’s a lot of competition between social media and communication apps, tech behemoths are constantly working on their apps for the purpose of expanding their audience.

So, what do you think of the news? How do you like Instagram’s obvious moves towards becoming an e-commerce platform? What about the like-a-Story feature? Does it sound any good to you? Share your opinion on the topic in the comments below. Your feedback matters a lot to us.
