New WhatsApp Community Feature and Others

  • Greg Burn

Community feature for iOS was recently released for public beta testers. This feature was announced earlier in November, and now some users can try how it works. It seems that WhatsApp will offer a lot of new functions soon. However, only the Community feature is now available on iOS. Community chat allows admins to create groups inside for chatting. This chat has a name and description. It’s not like a social network; it’s a private group with admins and members. Anyone who is added to the community can link up to one of the groups inside this chat. There can be up to ten groups.

Users that have already tried this feature said that the Announcement group is created automatically. Here members can see all news about creating or deleting groups, etc. You can also write posts that people can forward to groups in the community. Also, if the admin decides to unlink a chat, nobody will be able to see and join it. All community chats are protected with end-to-end encryption. Maybe WhatsApp will change something till the official release, but now this feature looks like this.

Three other features will be launched soon. When you’re sending files to somebody, you will be able to select different recipients. So, you won’t need to send the same photo to your friends separately. Another function is named “Business Nearby”. It’s a map that allows you to find restaurants, clothing shops, supermarkets, and other businesses in the area near you. The last feature WhatsApp is going to present is revamped Contact info. Earlier, WhatsApp redesigned the Business info page, and they want to do the same with Contact info.

All three features described above are not ready for the official release. Maybe they will come for beta testing. What features would you like to try? Do you think a Community chat will be helpful? Feel free to leave your comments or thoughts about this news.
