The Best New Video Games of 2022 (for March 16)

  • Greg Burn

2022 is still in its first quarter, yet we have already seen a bunch of great premieres in the gaming world. RPG and strategies, new IP and a new installment infamous franchises, console and PC games, AAA and indie titles – all of them are here. Let’s see which of them are the worthiest of your attention.

Elden Ring

A fantasy RPG developed by George Martin and Miyazaki Hidetaka, the creator of the Souls series. How can it be anything but great? And it is. It’s a large open-world adventure set in a classic fantasy world, with magic kingdoms, unhuman races, and, of course, dungeons. What the series inherits from Souls is its advanced combat system.

Dying Light 2

If you are into survival RPG, this is the game for you. The sequel of Dying Light combines action and horror, a Walking Dead-like complicated actions where you have to stand against both zombies and human villains. The storyline isn’t the best part of it, but visuals and action, especially the parkour system, are great.

Strange Horticulture

It’s a strange mix of a detective and a crafting game, with a twisted storyline and many bizarre quests. You run a plant store in a dark place. One day strange customers come to you, and step by step you get involved in a gloomy quest that includes exploring dangerous plants, investigating an ancient cult, and petting your cat.

Total War: Warhammer 3

The sequel of the famous saga is, again, a turn-based strategy, but with visuals taken to a new level. There are new human civilizations inspired by empires from real life, like Russia or China, and Chaos factions as well. In 2022, there are a few old-school strategies, so don’t miss it.

Lost Ark

Each generation should have its Lost Ark. This MMO had a million players in less than a day after the release. The combat system is unusual and engaging, lost treasures are to be found, and there are various greatly written classes. There are assassins, mages, warriors, gunners, and martial artists. An archeologist with a whip is not an option (we read your mind), but there are enough raids to call yourself a raider of the Lost Ark.

Horizon Forbidden West

Welcome to the post-apocalyptic America again! The sequel of Horizon Zero Dawn follows Aloy, a huntress that explores the abandoned Western states, full of dangerous machines that have become predators of this techno apocalypse. The game has fantastic visuals, an incredibly large open world, and lots of quests. It’s a reason to get yourself a PlayStation 5 if not yet.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Nintendo boys, it’s yours. Another Pokémon game is an open-world RPG with a story based on time travel. Now you explore the history of Hitsui, the island where Pokémon appeared in the universe. It’s a sort of Monster Hunter experience within the Pokéverse; this means that your character fights and catches Pokémon in person, not as a trainer. It’s one of the most unusual experiences in the universe after Pokémon Go, though traditional mechanics like hunting with Pokéball are here.

Gran Turismo 7

The biggest racing series for PlayStation comes up again with a new installment. To appreciate updated mechanics, visuals, and controls, you need a PlayStation 5, though the game runs on PS4 as well. If you like racing, this is the ultimate experience for PS that demonstrates the abilities of next-gen consoles.

To Be Continued

It’s only March, and we have more releases coming. Soon, God of War Ragnarök, Hello Neighbor 2, Kerbal Space Program 2, and other long-anticipated titles are about to be released. Which game do you expect, and which of the already released ones have you liked the most? Drop some names in the comments if you please!
